Through my education at Designlab, I gained a comprehensive foundation in UX and UI design, where I learned how to create user-centered solutions and craft seamless digital experiences. The program helped me develop skills in user research, wireframing, prototyping, and visual design, as well as the importance of iterative design processes and user testing. I was trained to approach problems with empathy, prioritize usability, and use design principles to create intuitive, functional interfaces. Additionally, Designlab's hands-on project work (including real client based projects) allowed me to apply these skills in real-world scenarios, building confidence in my ability to create impactful designs that solve user needs and deliver engaging experiences.
As a Personal Support Worker (PSW), I have developed many critical skills such as empathy, active listening, and problem-solving. This experience has honed my ability to empathize with users, particularly in creating designs that are user-friendly and accessible for individuals with diverse needs. The importance of clear communication, patience, and providing a safe, welcoming environment translates directly into my approach to designing seamless, supportive, and user-centered interfaces.
Through my experience as a head coach for an after school program, I gained valuable experience in leadership, communication, and problem-solving that I wouldn’t have learned anywhere else. Working with children required me to simplify complex ideas and adapt my approach to fit different learning styles, much like how I tailor designs to meet diverse user needs. Managing group dynamics and ensuring everyone felt supported taught me the importance of accessibility and creating environments where users feel comfortable and engaged.
I graduated from Western University with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology which has equipped me with valuable skills that directly influence my approach to UX/UI design. Through focusing my studies on human movement, anatomy, and psychology, I gained a deep understanding of how users interact with their environment, both physically and mentally. This has helped me develop an empathetic approach to design, ensuring that every interaction is comfortable and intuitive.
